05-16-2023 The chicks are getting assertive

The chicks are growing and getting some pin feathers in the tail and wings. The parents are on guard outside of the nest box, but don’t spend time in the box with the chicks. The chicks are getting very assertive about food and fight with each other over the pieces. They have learned that they can feed themselves leftovers after Rebecca leaves.
They will be banded on May 19 by the Department of Natural Resources.
