Our local Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), who oversees these endangered birds, has provided instructions on what to do if a falcon is found on the ground.
Wednesday morning, May 27, was a big day for the peregrine chicks. They got to meet Michigan Department Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife Biologists, Nik Kalejs and Ken Kesson, who placed identification bands on their legs.
The Kalamazoo Peregrine family is in for a big surprise this week. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) plans to band the four chicks on Wednesday, 5-27-2015.
The chicks are at the toddler stage. The larger chicks, especially, can stand on their legs and take wobbly steps. They are starting to stretch their wings and there are hints of feathers along the edge of the wing.
All four eggs have successfully hatched and the chicks (eyases) are keeping Mom and Dad busy. The first 2 eggs hatched on May 4, 2015, the third egg hatched on May 5, and the last egg hatched on May 7.
