KalamazooFalcons.com has footage missed by PBS Nature show, Animal Homes: The Nest. 

There are now 4 eggs in the nest box and the parents are actively incubating eggs. 

This past weekend was an exciting time for our Kalamazoo Peregrine Falcons. First, on Saturday night, Rebecca laid her first egg, then drama ensued. On Sunday morning, Rebecca quickly became agitated and very vocal as a second male falcon entered the scene. He came to challenge Kewpee for his territory, and they fought in the area for about 3 to 4 minutes before Kewpee won the battle and the intruder departed.

On Thursday, March 24, The Kalamazoo Falcon Cam was featured on WWMT, Channel 3 news.

The story talks about the new webcam that is set up that films the peregrine falcons that make the 5/3 Bank in downtown Kalamazoo home.

As we learned from the nest cam, the male Peregrine Falcon now in Kalamazoo is a different bird than the male that was here last year.  The new male has a band number of 81/D (black / red).  He was hatched and banded in 2010 on a building in downtown Lima, OH, which houses the Chase Bank, and looks remarkably similar to the Fifth Third Bank building here in Kalamazoo.  So, Kewpee is no stranger to the banking industry.

For the last few years, there had been two adult Peregrine Falcons in downtown Kalamazoo: a banded female (Rebecca) and an unbanded male.  Because of the band number, we know the female is Rebecca and that she was hatched in South Bend. 

These adults successfully raised four young in 2014.  Astute Kalamazoo Peregrine Falcon watchers started to notice a change in behavior of the adult resident birds in November of 2014.  On February 21, there was footage from the nest camera that confirmed the presence of a male Peregrine with leg bands. 

One of the four young peregrine falcons was found dead in August near Bronson Methodist Hospital. The falcon died of trauma after a high speed crash. The bird was likely distracted after swiping a pigeon which was still clutched in its talons.

A name was picked by a special committee for the peregrine falcon that has made its home atop the 5/3 Bank Building in Kalamazoo. (With video)

The young peregrine falcon who was rescued after a crash and recovered at a flight camp has returned to his parents and three siblings at their home on the 5/3 Bank building by the biologists who rescued him. The bird was banded in captivity making it the only one of the siblings with a band.
